june reading wrap up
Hello.
Today I’ll be sharing reviews of some of the books I read (and enjoyed) during the month of June, and tomorrow, I’ll be sharing my July TBR list with some other musings to look forward to.
If anyone else is insufferable for autumn like me, I have some exciting news. Bath and Body Works (and Yankee Candle) just released their fall preview for all of their candles and body care and it’s currently in stores now for you to smell and be transported into crisp cool autumn days. As much as I enjoy high end lux candles like Diptyque and Mizensir and Trudon, nobody can ever make me hate BB&W especially during fall and winter. It reminds me of my childhood when my mom would take me on shopping trips and we would pick out our favorite scents together as soon as they released their fall scents. She would take me to get lunch afterwards at the Nordstrom Cafe and I would always order grilled cheese and tomato soup and she would get a chicken caesar salad and we would split an iced tea. When we got home, we would sit on the couch and look through all the stuff we bought and talk about all the fun activities we were going to do when the ‘ber months begin. I attribute my love and passion for seasonal living to my mother and I carry our traditions with me every year. So, with that said, if you also have an unhealthy obsession with autumn, go spark some joy into your day and smell some pumpkin candles.
There is something so comforting about having traditions to look forward to during every season and every month of the year. No matter how heavy life gets, there’s always something to be excited about, something to celebrate, some sort of nostalgia that grounds you and reminds you of a time in your life when things felt lighter. I tend to get a little too excited about autumn and winter and skip over summer, but for the past several years, I’ve tried to stay present and relish in all of summer’s hot sticky glory. Do you see how much I’ve contradicted myself in the paragraph above? I’m only human.
Okay, let’s talk about books. I’m curious to know what you’ve been reading and loving lately.
June reading wrap up:
Truth is the Arrow, Mercy is the Bow by Steve Almond I actually listened to the audiobook of this one. Almond offers a collection that is both poignant and incisive, navigating the nuanced terrain of human emotions and relationships. Through his sharp, evocative prose, he examines the delicate balance between honesty and compassion, weaving together narratives that are as thought-provoking as they are heartfelt. His stories resonate with authenticity, capturing the raw, often contradictory nature of the human experience. Almond's ability to blend humor with profound insight makes this collection a compelling read, leaving readers with a deeper understanding of the complexities that define our lives and interactions. A must read for aspiring writers.
