Hello.
Every sunday I’m going to be sending out a weekly round up of interesting articles I’ve read throughout the week and I’m going to do my best to attach links that aren’t paywalled so you can enjoy them, too. There are so many incredible women (
and on substack) who post daily articles, so if you’re interested in that type of content I highly recommend checking them out. I found that when I attempted to post daily articles, it took all the joy out of reading them for the sake of creating content. I recently pulled the trigger and got a Jstor subscription and I’ve been having a hell of a time devouring their articles. With my Criterion, Mubi, The Paris Review, NYRB, and Jstor subscriptions, I’ve checked all the boxes for the insufferable, pretentious and unapproachable weird girl.Let’s talk about Jstor for a second. I’m thoroughly convinced that only hot and intelligent people read this publication. I pitched them an idea. Hear me out…
We’re all sick of dating apps right? What if Jstor (and other publications like it) hosted virtual meet ups for people to come together and commiserate, discuss articles, etc- one insufferable hot single to another? It’s like chess club, but for curious literary aficionados.
Anyways. If you’re looking for a smart publication with a cult following to get addicted to, go subscribe to Jstor.
I also wanted to share that I recently discovered this brand called Jouissance. Jouissance is a fragrance brand that draws inspiration from literary and sensual themes, aiming to create scents that evoke deep emotional and sensory experiences. The brand emphasizes the connection between fragrance and complex human emotions, blending elements of desire, intimacy, and literary richness in their perfume creations. Think Anais Nin. If you’re into erotic literature (I highly recommend), you should check out this brand.
And to tie this up in a neat bow and leave you with a nugget of knowledge this Saturday afternoon, the word "Jouissance" is a French term that broadly translates to "enjoyment" or "pleasure," but it carries deeper connotations in various contexts. In psychoanalytic theory, particularly in the works of Jacques Lacan, jouissance refers to a complex, often paradoxical form of pleasure that is intertwined with pain or excess. It goes beyond simple pleasure to encompass an intense, almost overwhelming experience of desire and fulfillment. In the context of literature and philosophy, jouissance can also imply a sense of liberation or ecstatic joy that transcends ordinary experiences.
Speaking of Jstor orgies and niche sexual fragrance brands, I think we’re all on the precipice of having an erotic summer. Whether you’re planning an erotic summer with your lover or yourself, I want to recommend some literary and film erotica for you to enjoy this weekend. I wouldn’t consider all of these “erotica”. Some are more sensual and less explicit. (Please be mindful of triggers with some of these books and films).
Erotica Literature:
-Anais Nin: I recommend Delta of Venus, House of Incest, A Woman Speaks, all of her early diaries, and Henry and June. Anais Nin has become one of my favorite writers. Her deep psychological insights, rich lyrical prose, and sophisticated exploration of erotic themes create an emotionally complex reading experience. She is one of the few writers who allow my brain to fully escape my reality.
