Hello.
We’re fully immersed in summer now. Before you know it, it’ll be late august and you’ll be eating peaches so ripe the juice drips down your chin and down your arms. You’ll be longing for cooler crisp autumn days, changing leaves, and apple pie. I become feral and insufferable during autumn and winter. I come out of hibernation a refreshed, changed woman with an insatiable creative appetite.
Ah, I’m daydreaming again.
Back to summer…
Here’s a little weekly report for you to enjoy this weekend.
Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T.
Reading:
I’m on a philosophy bender.
-Voice and Punishment by Jacques Derrida: Derrida explores the intricate relationship between language, power, and identity, emphasizing the consequences of marginalizing voices.
-Introduction to the Philosophy of History by Hegel: A comprehensive framework for understanding history through the development of human consciousness and the unfolding of absolute spirit.
-American Gods by Neil Gaiman: A mix of mythology with modern America, following an ex-convict named Shadow as he navigates a war between old and new gods.
-War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy: She is thiiiiiick let me tell you. The novel depicts the impact of the Napoleonic Wars on Russian society through the lives of several aristocratic families. I originally had the Penguin translation and it was absolute shit and so hard to understand. My friend El recommended the Pevear translation so I’m giving it another shot.
-Intermezzo by Sally Rooney: Rooney delves into the complex emotional landscapes and relationships of young adults in contemporary society.
-The Passion According to G.H. by Clarice Lispector: Lispector's novel follows a woman’s existential crisis and profound self-discovery after an encounter with a cockroach in her apartment.
Eating:
-mini charcuterie plates (bread, olives, cheese, fruits, crackers)

Obsessing:
-Orpheon by Diptyque: I’ve slept on this fragrance for so long. I finally bought the shower gel and jesus christ, it elevated my bath experience 178%. I need to perfume, too. But I refuse to buy it or wear it until I’ve picked myself up out of this deep post-unemployment depression. I don’t want this memory of my life associated with such a beautiful perfume.
-chess, playing chess, going to chess clubs, listening to podcast episode about chess
Recommending:
-Orpheon by Diptyque (just trust me on this one) (but obviously get a sample first to make sure your skin likes it)
-I think I mentioned this before, but I’m going to recommend it again. This candle warmer from amazon is one of the best things I’ve purchased this year.
-warm milk with honey and cinnamon before bed
Treating:
-chess club events
-new merch from The Paris Review (ah… I can’t wait to show you what I got)
-candy from BonBon
-new books (I’m on a book buying ban)
I love you.
See you tomorrow.
Bye <3

I smelled Orpheon by Diptyque two years ago and have not stopped thinking about it sense😖
