hello.
happy august.
barefoot and sun-dazed, i bite into this ripe peach of a month
i’m sending you a short and sweet letter today with some ins and outs for the month of august. i hope you enjoy.
august ins:
-having a library card: supporting your library, saving money, saving books, saving the world
-sisyphean existence: i’m a masochist
-dancing like the characters from the peanuts
-criterion: if you’re curious / passionate about film
-warm blueberry pie with vanilla bean ice cream: blueberries feel like august and i don’t know how to explain it but august is the color of fitzcarraldo editions- just like how september is burgundy, october is burnt orange, novemeber is espresso brown, and december is forest green.
-classical music: for you
-day dreaming about autumn: this goes without saying as we enter into late summer. this is especially prevalent for those of us who find summer to be quite a depressive season.
-a fresh bowl of cherries: deep dark burgundy colored cherries are begging to be eaten this month
-wong kar wai films: your homework assignment is to watch in the mood for love (2000)
-print magazines: the elite way to get off the screen. some of my favorite magazines: the new yorker, the new york review of books, ny mag, the paris review, popeye, cake zine, foodie magazines, vogue, gq…
-ella fitzgerald: ella is for every season, but she’s a spunky brilliant jazzy genius who feels like the lightness of summer
-pre loved doen: specifically this top and this dress. also note that their pre fall collection is superior and it launched this morning so go check it out
-stone fruits: your next homework assignment is to get peaches at your local farmers market. make sure they’re ripe to the touch and fragrant. those will be the most delectable and juicy. also ask the farmer for free stone peaches so they’re easy to cut open and they don’t squish and get demolished when you twist them open.
-figs: a controversial fruit i adore
-candle lit rooms: try it. no lights, just candles
-the bug collector by haley heynderickx
-pistachio ice cream: the elite flavor of ice cream in my opinion
-back to school season: posting this for you tomorrow <3
-pesto pasta with pine nuts for dinner al fresco with friends and jazz playing in the background: the thing about jazzy dinner parties is that they’re appropriate for every season and if you’re hosting, you get to set the mood for whatever season we’re currently in. pick a summery dish and pair it with a summery playlist
-anais nin: i won’t stop recommending her. i said it was going to be a hot erotic literary summer. it’s not too late to read her
-bonilla a la vista chips: the aesthetic tin or the more inexpensive option
-fresh sheets on your bed every sunday: still hunting for new bedding. maybe i’ll get some this month as i prep for autumn
-lighting the good candles: use the shit out of things you already have, especially the things you love most
-lavender milk tea lattes: lavender flavored things feels like summer. lavender scones, shortbread, tea, etc
-peach cobbler: promise me you’ll make a peach cobbler this month?
august outs:
-my birthday: it’s my party i can cry if i want to
-linkedin: the job search is destroying me one application at a time
-over consumption: if you’re in the space to buy, find things pre-loved
-social media scrolling: substack and pinterest are always exceptions
that’s all for today. i’d love to hear your ins and outs for august. comment below.
if you’re not ready to become a paid subscriber and you have the capacity to leave a tip, that would be so appreciated. <3
i love you.
bye.
So much love for this newsletter ❤️❤️ I m new here and love reading your posts! Can’t wait for Autumn 🍂
Love this. Can I offer the southern hemisphere month colours? August is sage green, September is spring green, October is sky blue, November is dusky pink and December is deep red. Have never read Anais Non, it's very much on my list.
