Tis the season for curating gift guides and since I’m a whore for product recommendations, I’ll be creating a gift guide of my own. It’ll be delivered straight to you sometime within the next week.
I would read print magazines as a teen daily and create collages and mood boards with all the things I loved and wanted to buy but could never afford. As much as I would love to say ‘bring print back, digital media consumption is trash’- the truth is, it’s not trash. I’m addicted as a consumer and creator. I’m chronically online, consuming, reading, absorbing, etc. Being online brings me so much joy (healthy joy? Prob not. But it’s okay). I also feel like the digital world is a girls world and I love being a girl so much.
Anyways, here this morning’s tea:
-The Sag Aftra strike is over: The prolonged period of industrial action in Hollywood is nearing its end as SAG-AFTRA announces a tentative deal to conclude the actors' strike, following a previous agreement by the WGA, with key issues such as compensation for streaming, health care, and AI use being addressed before a final member vote.
-And now, we can finally get some good films. Renne Rapp announced the upcoming Mean Girls trailer and I’m finally excited to go to the movies again.
-When plastic surgeon “Dr. Roxy” rose to TikTok fame, her OR seemed busier than ever. Until a record of botched surgeries caught up to her. This story is wild… Dr. Katharine Roxanne Grawe, known as "Dr. Roxy" on social media, was stripped of her medical license in Ohio following patient complaints and medical complications, despite her popularity for live-streaming surgeries and a significant online following. Her case highlighted concerns over the intersection of social media and medical professionalism, with a focus on patient safety and standards of care in the operating room. The things people do for clout.
-“I’m terrified of wasting my life”: why women in 2023 are experiencing so much time pressure: Women, influenced by societal expectations and the concept of a 'biological clock,' experience more intense time pressure than men, feeling an urgency to achieve life milestones within a narrow timeframe. This is nothing new… it just goes to show how far we have to go in this patriarchal society.
-Met Gala 2024 theme: The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute has announced "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" as the theme for its next exhibition and the 2024 Met Gala, focusing on historical and fragile garments, with pieces from top designers and yet-to-be-revealed dress code hints at a sensorial fashion experience.
-Cake Zine announces their new release date for their Winter 2024 issue: Tough Cookie. This magazine is one of my favorites and if you share the same affinity for food and food culture I do, you should definitely check them out.
-The Emily Sundberg gift guide is here. I adore her and everything she creates. She’s the reason I started this newsletter. <3
-NYT Cooking YouTube released their Thanksgiving trailer a couple days ago and I’m excited to see their new videos. Ultimate comfort at its finest.
-Epicurious released a gift guide for people who put salts and seasoning on everything (ehm, me) and maybe I’m late to the game, but did you know they make Maldon sea salt packets? Like, ones that can fit in your purse?!
Things I’m loving and recommending these days:
-chamomile milk tea lattes (just steep chamomile in hot milk with a spot of honey. You can froth the milk and make it foamy if you’re fancy). It’s so good and comforting.
-radishes with butter and salt
-Ina Garten Holiday specials
-Marissa Zappas Annabel’s Birthday Cake perfume (thanks Emily)
-Fancy grilled cheese with caramelized onions, apples, and brie on crunchy bread
-snoopy core ~ endless pinterst scroll of retro snoopy being snoopy, watching vintage Peanuts cartoons, etc
Okay, happy Friday, I love you.
