Okay… that’s most of them. I think On Sundays, I’ll do a weekly report and share more things I’m loving to tame this behemoth of a list so it’s not so lengthy at the end of the month.
Let’s get into some articles of interest:
-Brands are finally using real ballet dancers to encompass balletcore. As someone who did ballet for 18 years, this makes me extremely happy. For a while, brands were using non-ballet dancers to model their balletcore collections and putting them in pointe shoes (which is a horrible idea considering the fact that none of them were professionally trained). I think brands finally started to catch on and decided to do something about it.
Allsaints has a beautiful collab with The Royal Ballet. J Crew and Reformation with the NYC Ballet are other examples of brands doing it right.
-Samuel Alito’s Mom’s Satanic Abortion Clinic
The "Samuel Alito’s Mom’s Satanic Abortion Clinic," operated by The Satanic Temple in New Mexico, is a novel telehealth abortion clinic that leverages religious rituals to offer abortion services, aiming to use religious freedom laws to challenge restrictions in conservative states. This strategic initiative represents an intersection of healthcare, activism, and legal strategy, seeking to reshape the landscape of reproductive rights in the U.S. by blending traditional healthcare with religious and legal approaches.
this. is. wild.
-How To Make Networking Events Less Awkward: Be A Croissant, Not A Bagel
Robbie Samuels, a networking expert and author, advocates for a more open and inclusive approach to networking, symbolized by the concept of 'croissants' versus 'bagels'. He suggests supporting others in your network, personalizing interactions beyond work, and sharing knowledge generously. Samuels emphasizes the importance of being seen as a valuable community member and finding commonalities to strengthen connections. He also advises having a clear strategy for networking events and being open to finding professional connections in various settings, not just traditional professional environments.
The article reflects on the author's journey towards a healthier relationship with food, particularly their beloved Philadelphia cheesesteak. It explores the concept of savoring food, not just as a sensory experience but also as a mindful practice that enhances enjoyment and connection to food, drawing insights from nutrition experts and psychologists. This approach challenges the traditional notions of diet culture, emphasizing pleasure and mindfulness in eating rather than restriction, and illustrates how savoring can lead to a more balanced and fulfilling eating experience.
The emergence of "millennial core" videos on TikTok highlights the growing fascination and humor found in generational differences, particularly between Millennials and Generation Z. These videos, which compile stereotypical and often exaggerated behaviors of Millennials, have become a form of intergenerational mockery and entertainment, sparking both amusement and self-reflective responses from the subjects themselves, thereby illustrating the complex and often humorous dynamics of generational identity and perception in the digital age.
-Are You a Cambridge, a Berkeley, or a Burlington?
Spotify Wrapped Day is a yearly event where Spotify users receive a summary of their listening habits over the past year. This year, Spotify introduced "Sound Towns," a feature that matches users to cities based on their music preferences. However, many users on social media report being matched to the same three college towns: Berkeley, Burlington, and Cambridge, each associated with specific music tastes. While some users received other cities like San Luis Obispo and Bozeman, the majority seem to be clustered in a few locations, leading to speculation about Spotify's matching algorithm.
I know a lot of people get annoyed with the oversharing of Spotify wrapped, but I enjoy looking at it. People get so excited about the music, art, things they’re loving and I’m here for it.
Okay, that’s all for today.
One of my December wishlist items is to go to a farm that has baby animals I can hold and pet. I need to do some research.
