Hello.
Thank you for all of the kind messages from my last post about being newly funemployed. The support truly means the world to me. Shit has hit the fan, but nevertheless, we persist (sometimes masochistically). I’m certain I’m not the only one going through this, and I think it’s something I’m going to write about periodically because it’s important. If you’re also feeling a bit stuck, lost, confused, unhappy, etc in your career just know you’re not alone. As we get older, it feels scarier when life is uncertain because we have the pressures of time, society, family, friends, comparison…
In other (more lighthearted) news, I recently experienced Parfums De Marly, and I did so reluctantly because of how overly hyped the brand has been on social media. Not to mention, it’s expensive. I didn’t expect anything going into it, but let me tell you, this brand is overhyped for a reason. Tracy Wong from Invisible Stories recently spoke about how it’s foolish to not like a fragrance because you’re afraid of what others will think. And it’s equally foolish to not like a fragrance because everybody else likes it. I think this mindset and approach to anything we do within beauty and fashion is what defines taste- being so unapologetically certain about the things you like without one ounce of care about what others think. I’m a recovering people pleaser so this does not come easy to me, but I’m trying, and Parfums De Marly felt like a good first step into feeling confident in my own skin (with this god’s nectar of a fragrance).
I wasn’t hooked on everyone’s favorite, Delina (none of the variations), but I did fall hard for Valaya- an intimate, sensual breath of fresh air. The notes are mandarin, bergamot and white peach, orange blossom, musk, and vanilla. It’s intoxicating. I don’t like to compare fragrances but if I had to, Fleur Narcotique by Ex Nihilo could be a relative of Valaya. Fleur Narcotique went bitter on my skin after an hour and it smelled like cheap body mist (my skin’s fault, not the fragrance), so I was hesitant to try Valaya. But my goodness, not only did this last and project the entire day, but my skin loved it. It doesn’t project in an invasive way, but rather, it creates an aura and cloud of warm and intoxicating femininity and warmth and comfort for you and the people around you.
(As always, be sure to try fragrances on your skin before committing to the whole bottle. Don’t blind buy. Especially with fragrance like this because, phew, she’s pricey.)
Okay, I could talk about this for days, but let’s move on into today’s news. Speaking of, after today’s newsletter, I’m going to start attaching links to articles outside of Apple News. I realize not everyone has that and it’s been difficult to share articles that aren’t paywalled. On most sites, they allow you to read 1-2 free articles so I’m going to do my best to focus of sharing that type of content so you can experience it, too. There are, however, a few subscriptions that I pay for- Business of Fashion, Puck, and WWD that share incredible content and I’ll continue to share sources from those publications because I think they’re worth it, especially in you’re into beauty, fashion, and society & culture.
