sephora sale, home fragrances, and today's news
Hello.
Are you shopping the sephora sale? I recently listened to the The Gloss Angeles Beauty Tournament episode from the Gloss Angeles podcast (highly recommend) and they said when you’re shopping, remember dodowho… which basically means, ask yourself “do I need this?”, “do I know what this does?”, “who told you about this?”. This is particularly useful for people like me who love to shop, especially when it comes to beauty and fragrance.
I’m going to share what I’m buying because I love recommending things and I love reading about what other substack writers are recommending, too. <3
Sephora Sale:
Lancome Liquid Eyeliner: This is a restock purchase of mine. I’ve tried a lot of eyeliners as I’ve learned to master my cat eye, and this is by far my favorite. It has a little tube to dip the tip into so it doesn’t dry out, which is especially helpful when you’re making fine lines.
Laura Mercier Body Butter: Ambre Vanille and Almond Coconut Milk transport me back to my childhood when my mom would wear these lotions to bed.
Pat McGrath Labs Blurring Under Eye Powder: I’ve heard amazing things about this one. I haven’t used it yet, but I’ll report back.
Dior Lip Glow: Not the lip oil. This is a hydrating lip balm and I use it before applying liner and lipstick. This Rosewood color is beautiful.
Charlotte Tilbury Eyeshadow Pallete: I’m restocking on this one. I’m not a big eyeshadow girl. I stan a cat eye and red lip. But this pallete is stunning and I get compliments on it all the time. I use the matte brown for a soft under eyeliner and the light shimmer for the inner corners of my eyes.
Necessaire Shampoo: This is great for people who has dry skin and dry scalp. It’s not scented (which I appreciate) and it deeply cleanses your scalp and hair which leaves me feeling extra clean. I hate conditioner, but this one is good.
Peter Thomas Roth Collagen Eye Patches: I used to wear eye patches all the time and they never did anything for me, but I wore them anyways because I wanted to feel something. These are the first eye patches that actually moved the needle a little but. I struggle with hollow under eyes and I’m too scared to get under eye filler. These worked amazing. They didn’t fix everything. They’re not perfect. But they actually did something compared to others I’ve tried.
Oribe Heat Protectant Spray: Ohh how I love Oribe. The scent is so clean and delicious, but more importantly, it’s good for your hair. If you’re someone who applies heat to your hair frequently, this is an amazing product. Try the mini size and see how you like it.
Kiehl’s Creme De Corps Soy Milk & Honey Body Butter: Another childhood nostalgic memory unlocked. I love this body butter before bed. I love anything with milk and honey notes. It’s very soothing and calming.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask: You probably already have this. I use it every morning and it has worked wonders on hydrating my lips, especially during the winter. And it smells yummy.
Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Pads: Another restock and cult favorite. I love these pads so much. They have cleared up my skin/ pores/ texture/ etc. They kind of burn my face, but I love it and it makes me feel like they’re doing magic, which they are.
Saie Double-Ended Sculpting Brush: I love this brush for blush and light contouring/ sculpting. The price point is right compared to other brushes I’ve tried.
Touchland Hand Sanitizer: The vanilla one is my favorite. It’s light and not too fragrant. It smells like marshmallows and sunshine.
Nette Chai Candle: This candle has been on my wishlist for SO long. I’m ordering it and will report back. Key notes: cardamom, cinnamon, steamed milk… a dream.
Canopy Humidifier For Skin: I’ve had the Canopy Humidifier before and I loved it. Unfortunately, it was broken during my move. I’m excited to try this portable one for the skin. These are little diffuser oils you can put in there to make it smell good.
Lime Zest & Matcha Candle by Nest: Yes, I’ve owned this and I’m buying it again. Perfect for a spring summer fresh scent.
DedCool Laundry Detergent: I’ve been wanting to try this for so long. I smelled Taunt and Milk in C.O. Bigelow, and as much as I wanted to love the milk scent, I ended up liking Taunt more. I’ll let you know if I like it. Next on my wish list are the dryer sheets. I will also mention I’m not a fan of the fragrances. But… I want to see how this detergent plays out.
Okay, I think that’s everything. If I think of anything else, I’ll sprinkle it into tomorrow’s letter. Let’s get into today’s articles.
But first, speaking of DedCool laundry detergent. Can we talk about the cataclysmic downfall of The Laundress? If you don’t know, The Laundress recalled approximately 8 million products, including laundry detergent and fabric conditioner, due to the risk of bacterial contamination, with bacteria such as Burkholderia cepacia complex and Klebsiella aerogenes identified. The affected products were manufactured between January 2021 and September 2022. Consumers with weakened immune systems, external medical devices, or underlying lung conditions were particularly at risk and advised to stop using the products immediately and contact The Laundress for a refund.
But before this all went down, The Laundress partnered Le Labo, specifically using their Santal 33 and Rose 31 scents. This partnership aimed to offer a high-end laundry experience, allowing users to infuse their wardrobe with some of Le Labo's most iconic fragrances. I’m not exaggerating when I say that using the Rose 31 laundry detergent was the most elite, luxurious laundry experience of my life. I’m not a rose girl. I’m not a Santal 33 girl. But the Rose 31 detergent smelled like heaven. I would give anything for them to be able to collaborate again now that The Laundress got their shit together. Someone help me make this happen.
People don’t talk about scent enough when it comes to things that aren’t fragrance. Candles, home clean products, hand soap, shampoos and conditioners, body wash, laundry detergent, fabric softeners, dryer sheets, room sprays, linen spray, and the list goes on. Do you also love the little luxuries of scented things we use in our daily lives? Maybe, I’ll make a post about this soon.

Is College Still Worth It? Yes (For Now, At Least)
A college education currently provides about a 9% to 10% yearly return on investment, outperforming long-term equities, with degrees in engineering and computer science yielding the highest returns. Despite increasing college costs, the income gap between college and high school graduates has also risen, maintaining the financial advantage of a college degree. However, the value of a degree has slightly decreased over the past 15 years, with significant variations in return based on the major, and education majors experiencing some of the lowest returns.

Notable & Quotable: Babar The Elephant
Oh, how I love Babar. Laurent de Brunhoff, the author of "Babar," expressed that he never created his books with children specifically in mind. Instead, Babar was his friend, and the stories were inventions for his own enjoyment, not crafted with a young audience as the primary focus.

Honeyed fragrances, ranging from fruity to resinous, are gaining popularity for their complex and mood-enhancing qualities, with modern perfumers embracing honey’s natural floral richness in unique and luxurious scents that appeal to both traditional and contemporary tastes. Honey reminds me of late spring and summer, cottagecore, maltida miss honey type of vibes and I love it.
