hello.
time for a weekly report. it’s been a pretty rough week for me (yes, it’s only tuesday). i wrote in my note last night that i lost two friends to suicide recently. life has felt extra heavy lately- incessant interviews only to get ghosted, feeling lost about my purpose in the world, and trying to stay strong and save face for my daughter, etc, etc, etc. i won’t go on, i’m just writing this because the world outside my own personal life is an absolute shit show and i can’t imagine that i’m the only one who is struggling. you’re not alone. you matter. you deserve to be here. and i love you.
okay, moving on to a lighter topic- a short and sweet weekly report filled with a few recs to make your week a little brighter.
weekly report:
reading:
i’m reading several books currently. i just finished the crucible by arthur millier, which i truly enjoyed. it’s almost spooky season and there is nothing i love more than horror lit fic. i should make a list for you.
i’m almost finished with war and peace (phew). i’m also making my way through the poppy war by r.f. kuang and upstream by mary oliver.
eating:
everything tastes better on a snoopy plate.
my favorite thing to eat right now are fruits and vegetables from the farmers market. we are in peak produce season. peaches, apricots, plums, tomatoes, figs, zucchini, etc are all waiting to be devoured. you can bake them in a tart or eat them as they are- either way, delicious and nourishing.
playing:
-my brat summer is an insufferable one per usual
obsessing:
-ffern fragrance: they generously gifted me their summer ‘24 fragrance and did not require me or pay me to hype them up. ffern is a natural fragrance house that uses natural ingredients to produce four fragrances per year, released at the equinox and solstice. sounds right up my alley. the latest release has notes of pink peppercorn, grapefruit, mandarin rind, bay lead, nutmeg, neroli, cedar, vetiver, and a few others. it’s beautiful and i’m obsessed.
-this is extremely off brand of me, but i just started watching the dallas cowboys cheerleaders series on netflix and i am throughly immersed and entertained. i did ballet for 18 years so anything dance and i’m hooked.
recommending:
-warm milk with honey and cinnamon before bed: a childhood treat that i recently started incorporating into my evening routine. it’s one of the most comforting part of my day.
-also peach cobbler, preferably with vanilla bean ice cream on top. and i’m attaching a recipe from my childhood below. i think you’ll love it.
treating:
-new bedding: garbo and friends, piglet in bed, and quince are my favorite brands for bedding. i’ve used garbo and friends for my daughter’s room for years and we love it so much. their designs are simple and minimal- very cottagecore and cozy.
that’s all for today. i’m currently writing up a back to school newsletter for you inspired by the seasons and nostalgia. it’ll be filled with films, books, activities, and a back to school shopping lists for you to enjoy. i think you’ll love it.
if you’re not ready to become a paid subscriber and you have the capacity to leave a tip, that would be so appreciated. <3
i love you.
bye.
Hi Caitlyn, I am an avid reader of your newsletters and absolutely devour them and often re-read them when in need of comfort. I'm always too shy to comment, but I just wanted to send you lots of love and warmth during this difficult time. You too are loved and appreciated, and I hope you'll find comfort in small daily things like I find comfort in your newsletters 🤎
Sending you lots of virtual hugs Caitlyn. Take care of yourself 🫶
Would also love to know what you use to take/edit your pictures? I love how they look. That Snoopy plate is everything.
