I remember taking one of the courses on ancient Egypt which was really fun.
Also Sapiens has been widely disproven. I would recommend "The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity" instead- more loved by anthropologists :)
Not everyone is a trained anthropologist. Readers trust what is being marketed to them. It was huge when it came out and is a familiar title. It’s the same with “Guns, Germs, and Steel”. With time arguments are reconsidered but readers aren’t looking at these updates, you know? “The Dawn of Everything” is also very new. With that said, it still is very popular, and I wouldn’t discredit it.
you can take free courses online from MIT and either audit them for free or pay some for a certificate and they are taught by such great professors!!! auditing an economic development one rn that’s taught by a nobel prize winner in econ
This is so helpful and resonates soooo much. Thank you.
I've also found when I'm working on a writing project (right now I'm outlining a sci-fi thriller), my brain really enjoys deep diving into research for whatever project I'm writing about. Somehow I've ended up in the quantum physics realm of podcasts/youtube lately when doing this book's research, and it's been fascinating!! I'm definitely going to check out quantum physics for poets - thanks for the rec!
You mentioned Cultish my Amanda Montell, her podcast It Sounds Like A Cult is a personal favorite of mine. If you haven't heard about it yet, I also recommend The Matt Walker Podcast to learn about all things sleep!!
Oh! Also wanted to include a thank you for the suggestions because I've recently done an exodus of social media and trying to figure out what to do with myself now 🤪
my anti brain rotting consists of playing at least one sudoku game, wordle, a crossword, reading the news, an article, 1 chapter of a book and studying a bit of french. plus i only allow myself to scroll if i get everyting done.
Have you tried some of the free courses from the ivy's? An example: https://pll.harvard.edu/catalog?topics%5B707%5D=707&price%5B1%5D=1&max_price=&start_date=&keywords=

Yes I love the Harvard courses! Stanford has some free courses I want to try as well 🤭
Manda, if Sapiens has been widely disproven, why does it continue to outsell The Dawn of Everything?

Valid points Manda.
You're a smart woman, what would you say are the differences between "Sapiens" and "The Dawn of Everything"?
I deeply resonate with your sentiment. I fear the mundanity that a regular 9 to 5 job could be.
