Technology caused fragmentation and loneliness let’s solve the problem with more technology that will lead to more alienation, but at least tech billionaires get richer.
You got it. So will never replace that human feeling when you are waiting for that person to come home or just see them. The feeling like that of a child on Christmas morning excited for what's to come. That is the ultimate feeling we would lose. For me, that is a precious feeling to fight for.
There is an appeal to ai's empathy although simulated, it is experienced as real. There is a consistency to parasocial relationships with ai that is appealing. I don't think it should replace human relationships but I do think there is room for it.
Hi! quick note; I believe you switched the descriptions for y/n and annie bot. This is such an interesting and thoughtful piece though, will check some of the other books out
"the complications and complexity of relationships are what make love worth fighting for. the intimacy of being understood. the stirring, yearning, longing, messy essence of our humanity… hope- an empty void and emotion that can never be reciprocated by artificial intelligence or parasocial relationships. the convenience of an uncomplicated love underscores a deeper issue which is the disconnection that fuels our need for such ai in the first place." so beautifully put
This is a fantastic article so fascinating and definitely lots to take away. I remember going to the cinema to watch her and was so confused by it. It was such a weird concept at the time and yet here we are experiencing it. I can see why some would use it to turn to when craving connection.
Very informative
